Ripley by Patricia Highsmith

The Talented Mr. Ripley is the first of Patricia Highsmith’s novels about Tom Ripley, the charming, amoral young man who became one of crime fiction’s most memorable antiheroes. In 1950s New York, Tom is scraping by when a wealthy shipbuilder asks him to travel to Italy and persuade his son, Dickie Greenleaf, to come home.

Seduced by Dickie’s privileged life on the Italian coast and resentful of his friendship with Marge, Tom finds his fascination turning to obsession, and then to something far more dangerous. Tense, stylish and psychologically sharp, it is a classic of suspense for readers who enjoy literary crime.
